We’re back, and we missed you!

Now Open

The Library is now open again for limited services. We made some changes in accordance with Kentucky Healthy at Work guidelines for the safety of our patrons and staff. We kindly ask you bring your patience with you on your visit, as these are new procedures that will take some adjustment from all of us. Please remember that many of these changes are only temporary during this initial phase of reopening.

Know Before You Go

Patrons are required to wear masks in the Library per Governor Beshear’s Executive Order.

If you are sick or have been in the last 24 hours, please do not visit the Library.

New temporary hours

Sunday | 1 pm – 5 pm
Monday | 10 am – 8 pm
Tuesday | 10 am – 8 pm
Wednesday | 10 am – 8 pm
Thursday | 10 am – 8 pm
Friday | 10 am – 6 pm
Saturday | 10 am – 5 pm

(The Library temporarily reduced its hours because of the state requirement to be at 50 percent staffing level, as well as to allow time for cleaning and restocking. We hope to return to our normal operating schedule as restrictions are lifted.)

Please enter the Library from the parking lot entrance. The Washington Street entrance will not be available.

Please return library materials in the book drop outside the Library. Staff cannot accept returns directly.

Occupancy will be limited to 100 patrons in the building at once. You may be asked to wait outside until others leave.

Computer area

Computer use (on a library computer or using wifi) will be limited to 2 hours per day. Fewer computers are available in order to practice social distancing. Staff will not be able to provide extended technology assistance, and they will not be able to touch patrons’ personal electronic devices.

Patrons coming to check out items are asked to limit their visit to one hour or less. Our service model in this phase is “Grab and Go,” with no seating or study tables available for reading.

Resources and spaces that will temporarily not be available include newspapers and magazines, the Quiet Reading Room, the Local and Family History Room, the meeting rooms, and the children’s play area.

All programs through the end of the summer will be held virtually. In person programs may resume this fall if it is safe to do so.

Wearing masks

How We Are Keeping Patrons and Staff Safe:

During the Library’s closure, the carpets and floors were professionally cleaned and the building was power washed. High touch surfaces and bathrooms are cleaned and disinfected regularly. The Library has installed hand sanitizing stations, social distancing signs, and sneeze guards. Staff will be practicing social distancing with their coworkers and with patrons.

Library staff have their temperature taken before the start of their shift. They wear masks in accordance with Kentucky Healthy at Work guidelines, and wear gloves for some tasks. They regularly clean their workstations and practice good hand hygiene.

Returned library items are quarantined for 144 hours before being removed from patron accounts and returned to the shelves.

Patrons are asked to wear masks and to practice social distancing in accordance with CDC recommendations. Complimentary masks are available for patrons as supplies last.

Safety precautions

Patrons who do not feel comfortable entering the building may request that their holds be delivered curbside. Other options for enjoying the Library while being Healthy at Home include checking out items from our digital library or signing up for Homebound Delivery

Please note that depending on directives from the Governor’s office and/or local health officials, reopening plans could be adjusted at any time.
