2:00 pm - Summer Reading Kick-Off Party

Sponsored by Atmos Energy and in partnership with KET! Kick of the summer with mini golf, music, hotdogs from the Atmos grill truck, and special guests from KET, including PBS Kids Daniel Tiger! Community partners will also be offering kids’ activities in the Library Garden.

McCracken County Public Library Summer Reading Program 2023 theme is β€œAll Together Now.” We will have programs and reading challenges for all ages in June and July. We want to get the whole community reading this summer! The kick-off party for our summer reading programs on Thursday June 1st from 2-6 pm will be in the Library Garden. We will have lawn games, light refreshments, music, and community partners! In case of rain we will move the event inside, but we hope for good weather for a garden party.

Summer Reading Programs and educational play are very important for school age children to prevent β€œsummer slide.” According to Scholastic, many kids lose significant knowledge in reading and math over summer break, and this can have a snowball effect over subsequent years with skill loss each year. Children in 3rd to 5th grades lose, on average, about 20 percent of their school-year gains in reading and 27 percent of their school-year gains in math during summer break. Summer Reading Programs at the Library help prevent summer slide for kids and can bring whole families together for free fun and educational events!
