Bonsai is the art of cultivating and growing beautiful small trees that actually mimic a large tree and is a tradition that has been carried out for over a thousand years.

In this engaging overview,  Gould will discuss the definition and history of bonsai and highlight the artistry associated with bonsai.  He will also overview characteristic of trees which are suited to the art form, how to get started, and basic bonsai care.  He will highlight features of bonsai by focusing on several of his trees.

Gould has been a bonsai enthusiast since the age of 20 when he collected his first tree from the ground.  Since, he has started his own trees from seed, utilized yard cuttings, and purchased trees from various places around the country.  On several occasions, he has attended the International Bonsai workshops in Olive Branch Mississippi, where his largest specimen was purchased.

The 101 series sparks interest in a wide range of unique topics. Programs are free and open to the public and led by experts in their fields.
