April 2018 is Fine-Free!

The McCracken County Public Library is welcoming back patrons who have overdue materials by waiving late fines throughout the month of April. The event starts on April 1 and runs through April 30, coinciding with many area schools’ spring breaks as well as National Library Week.

The decision to host a month-long amnesty period builds upon the library’s previous fine forgiveness event, which lasted for two weeks in April of 2017 and restored borrowing privileges to approximately 300 patrons. The event also prompted the return of library materials that had been overdue for more than thirty years.

“Last year’s fine amnesty period was so successful that we wanted to do it again, and this time make it even more convenient for our patrons by having it for the entire month of April. We’re thrilled to welcome back both our patrons and our materials to the library,” said Library Director Susan Baier. “We want the entire McCracken County community to benefit from the wealth of resources the library has to offer. Forgiving overdue fines will restore library access to many who previously were blocked. Last year close to 300 patrons had their library privileges reinstated due to our amnesty period.”

The library is once again encouraging its patrons to return all late materials during this period and have their fines waived regardless of how long the materials have been overdue.
