In the 1950s, Homer H. Hickam, Jr. was coming of age with his head in the clouds. Meanwhile, everyone else in his West Virginian coal-mining town was busy underground. His 1998 story, Rocket Boys: A Memoir, tells of that turbulent time when his dreams of space caused rifts with his father on Earth. Hickam’s book made such an impact, Hollywood produced the feature film October Sky, starring Jake Gyllenhall, Chris Cooper, and Laura Dern, just one year after Rocket Boys hit bookstores and libraries.

Rocket Boys books and audiobooks as well as October Sky on DVD are available to check out from the library.
