LIBRARY CLERK (PART TIME)


The Library takes applications for part-time clerks on a rolling basis, and reviews applications when a vacancy occurs. This listing does not necessarily mean there is a position available.

 

HOURS:
Approximately 15-20 hours per week, including evening hours, Saturdays, and Sundays.


DUTIES:
Assists patrons in finding materials, shelves materials, works at the circulation and/or check in desk.


REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Post-secondary training preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Ability to work with the public courteously and effectively.


SALARY
$8.00 per hour

LIBRARY ASSISTANT - ADULT SERVICES (FULL TIME)


DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Under direction of the manager, provides assistance to customers, insures the smooth operation and circulation of material, develops the library collection, supervises, trains, and evaluates library clerks, and promotes the library at community events and in the library.

 

DUTIES:

  • Supervises and directs the activities of the department, including setting workflow priorities, seeing that appropriate procedures and policies are followed, and work is accomplished.
 
  • Coordinates, directs, and evaluates the work and training of staff in regard to the use of the library system and circulation of materials.
 
  • Performs various tasks associated with circulation, including but not limited to: checking material in and out, interlibrary loan services, telephone renewals, and collecting fines or donations.
 
  • Assists customers with selections and provides loan policy, directional, referral and reference information in response to customer questions.
 
  • Routinely shelves material and maintains collection by shelf reading, weeding, and making selections for purchase.
 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of library methods and procedures.
 
  • Ability to operate library machines properly.
 
  • Keyboarding and filing ability.
 
  • Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
 
  • Willingness to maintain skills in above mentioned areas through active participation in appropriate library skills learning experiences.
 
  • Ability to attain Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives Certification in at least the Paraprofessional level, within 5 years.

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time position.  Schedule will include some night and weekend hours.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • General computer and keyboarding experience is necessary
 
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
 
  • Some previous library or customer service work experience is preferred
